Confirmed data from BBM Canada shows that History Television has firmly secured the #2 Specialty position (A25-54) with double-digit growth in all key demographics, including women and younger viewers. With a remarkable five out of 10 of the country’s most-watched Specialty programs (A25-54), History Television is outpacing non-sports Specialty competitors by over 30% and delivering audience numbers that rival even the newest conventional programs.

Canwest Broadcasting announced today the start of production for Canadian Pickers, a new Canadian original series that follows ‘pickers’ Sheldon Smithens and Scott Cozens as they search Canadian back roads, basements, sheds and barns for unlikely gems and forgotten national treasures. Based on the format of the massively popular series, American Pickers, Canadian Pickers (13x60mins) is slated to premiere in Spring 2011 on History Television.

The premiere of Pawn Stars, season 3 on Tuesday, August 31 delivered the goods in a big way, achieving the highest audience ever for a series on History Television. Airing back-to-back at 9 and 9:30pm ET/PT, the new episodes were the #1 and #2 ranked programs on Specialty television that day, garnering record-breaking audience numbers with 577,000 (2+) and 276,000 (A25-54) at 9:00pm ET/PT and a triumphant 740,000 (2+) and 393,000 (A25-54) at 9:30pm ET/PT. The 9:30pm airing marked the highest audience numbers ever for a single episode on the channel, further asserting History Television’s AMA powerhouse status and unrelenting audience growth. Delivering two times more viewers than any other program on Specialty during its timeslot (2+), the episode of Pawn Stars at 9:30 pm ET/PT also beat out Being Erica (CBC; 188,000; 9-10pm) and the finale of Shaq Vs. (CTV; 674,000; 9-10 pm), featuring tween sensation Justin Bieber.

| Ratings: Ice Road Truckers Season 3 Premiere Wins Specialty Timeslot |

The return of History Television’s top-rated series, Ice Road Truckers, was the show’s most-watched episode of all time, hauling-in over half a million viewers on Wednesday, March 31 at 9 pm ET/PT. This achievement marks the highest audience ever for a series on History Television, exceeding the channel’s high-water mark of the debut episode of Ice Road Truckers on March 4, 2009 at 512,000 (2+) and 245,000 (A25-54). The highest-rated program on Specialty television during its timeslot, the premiere episode of the third season delivered massive ratings to the channel with 597,000 (2+) viewers, 280,000 (A25-54) and 287,000 in the younger A18-49 category.
