In May 2008, something bizarre washed ashore off the British Columbian coast—one right foot, still in its running shoe. The severed foot was one of four to turn up on shore in two months, kicking off one of the most puzzling forensic investigations in Canada. Speculation about who the feet belonged to ranged from victims of boating accidents to unrecovered plane crash victims, to possible victims of a serial killer or criminal gangs.
