ExpressVu to introduce a "system charge" fee

Get ready to pay another fee with Bell ExpressVu, starting April 28th they are introducing a new "system charge" of $2.99 per month to ALL customers.


This new fee comes on the heels of other recent increases in programming rates and the multiple receiver fee for new customers.

Global Sunday Tackles the Tax Man

On March 2nd, Global Sunday takes a look at the overburdened Canadian taxpayer.

This week's host Troy Reeb is joined by Mark Milke, author of, "Tax Me I'm Canadian". With Monday being the annual RRSP deadline, the program looks at the plight of overtaxed Canadians who are finding the weight of the tax man too much to bear. Also on this week's program is Janice MacKinnon, former NDP Saskatchewan Finance Minister, Walter Robinson of The Canadian Taxpayers Federation and Jack Mintz of the CD Howe Institute.

CRTC Releases Statistical and Financial Report on Television

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today issued its annual statistical and financial report on Canadian television. The report, Television, statistical and financial summaries, provides data for the years 1998 to 2002. A comparison of 1998 revenues and spending for private television with the same data for 2002 shows that both revenues and spending have remained essentially constant. In fact, over that period, revenues grew by 3.6 per cent and spending by 4.5 per cent.

The Biography Channel announced that it will be raising a glass to St. Paddy with programming that celebrates Irish heritage. The day long St. Patrick's Day schedule begins at 10a.m. (ET) on Sunday, March 16th and includes biographies of some of the most well-known personalities of Irish heritage such as Maureen O'Hara, Joseph P. Kennedy, Peter O'Toole and St. Patrick himself, the patron saint of Ireland.

The Biography Channel announced it will salute the 75th Anniversary of the Academy Awards* with 40 hours of previous and potential award-winner's biographies. Beginning on Friday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and ending just in time for the start of the Oscar* telecast on Sunday, March 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, The Biography Channel will air biographies of past and possible 2003 Oscar winners including Roman Polanski, Nicolas Cage, Paul Newman, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

ExpressVu suffers Nimiq 2 satellite anomaly

Earlier today Telesat experienced a malfunction on Nimiq 2 which affected the available power on the spacecraft.

Measures were immediately taken to restore the affected traffic. The majority of the transponders are functioning normally and the situation has stabilized. A plan has also been implemented to minimize the impact of the anomaly on the customer.

Telesat is working with the Nimiq 2 spacecraft manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, to understand the cause of the anomaly and determine the next steps.

CSI:Crime Scene Investigation Set to Debut on Showcase and Showcase Action

Alliance Atlantis Communications' top-rated series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, will begin airing on Showcase and Showcase Action, two Canadian specialty channels which the company owns and operates, it was announced today. The series, which the company co-produces and distributes, will make its specialty television debut on April 26, 2003. Past seasons of the series will begin airing on Saturdays and Sundays on Showcase and from Monday to Friday on Showcase Action.

CTV will continue to air first-run episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in Canada.
