Production news: Lionsgate's Bratz™ Franchise Hits a High Note

Lionsgate has announced that "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul has joined the creative team of BRATZ: THE MOVIE, the first live action feature based on Bratz™, the highly popular brand of fashion dolls manufactured by leading consumer entertainment products company MGA Entertainment. Crystal Sky Pictures is financing the live action feature film, directed by Sean McNamara (RAISE YOUR VOICE). Arad Productions' Avi Arad, MGA's Isaac Larian and Crystal Sky's Steven Paul are producing the picture, and Crystal Sky Pictures president Benedict Carver will executive produce. Lionsgate is distributing BRATZ: THE MOVIE in the United States. The announcement was made jointly by Lionsgate's President of Film Production Mike Paseornek and producers Arad, Larian and Paul. The film will begin production in February and is scheduled to open in August of 2007.

If you're a fan of Stargate Atlantis as I am, you'll be happy to know that the second half of the third season will air tonight at 8pm ET on The Movie Network. Fans who don't have pay tv can tune in to Citytv to catch the premiere of season 2 january 26th at 9pm. Atlantis is also presented on Movie Central tonight at 10pm MT. The series is available in High Definition on Citytv HD, MC HD and TMN HD.

ACTRA is on strike as of today, Monday, January 8, 2007 in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. ACTRA will be on strike in the rest of the country shortly, except British Columbia that is under a separate agreement.

General News: Alliance Atlantis Responds to Media Speculation

In response to media speculation, Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. today announced that, further to its previously-announced process of exploring strategic alternatives, it is engaged in discussions regarding a possible sale of AACI. Southhill Strategy Inc., AACI's controlling shareholder (owned by AACI's Executive Chairman, Michael MacMillan, and Seaton McLean), is also participating in those discussions. There can be no assurance that these discussions will result in a definitive agreement.

In a unanimous vote, ACTRA's negotiating committee has set a strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007. Producers were given notices to this effect as last-ditch talks resumed this morning.
