As Canadian astronaut Julie Payette preps for the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour tomorrow morning to join fellow Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk on the International Space Station, CTV is also preparing to defy gravity. The new CTV/SPACE drama series DEFYING GRAVITY debuts Sunday, August 2 at 9 p.m. ET in a special two-hour super-simulcast premiere on CTV, /A\ and ABC. CTV’s fourth cross-border scripted series continues August 9 in its regular timeslot, Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Created by GREY’S ANATOMY’s James Parriott and executive produced by DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES’ Michael Edelstein DEFYING GRAVITY is a sexy, provocative space thriller set in the very near future, following eight astronauts – from five countries including Canada – on a mysterious mission through the solar system.

In one of Canada’s most ambitious reality series for kids to date, eighteen contestants – aged 12-14 – race across North America in a heart-pounding, skill-based competition that allows kids to clock into the real world for the first time. Hosted by Canadian comedian Sabrina Jalees, in each episode contestants must avoid elimination by competing in a series of thrilling job-related challenges in professions that range from NASCAR racers and Hollywood stunt people to ER doctors and alligator wranglers. It is a fierce race to the finish with only one challenger winning the ultimate prize: college tuition money and an all-expense paid family vacation to one of four amazing destinations. “In the Real World” (13 x 60’) airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET/PT beginning Feb. 4 on YTV. A YTV original production, the series is produced by Montreal-based Apartment 11 Productions.

| New Programs: CTV Orders New Comedy Pilot From Brent Butt |

With production just wrapped on the sixth and final season of Corner Gas (premiering Oct. 13), CTV and The Comedy Network announced today that it has commissioned a pilot for a new scripted half-hour original comedy series from Brent Butt. The star, creator and executive producer of Canada’s No. 1 comedy series, Butt moves behind-the-scenes to helm his latest project, Hiccups, which begins shooting in Vancouver later this month. The pilot episode stars the hilarious Nancy Robertson, who plays Wanda Dollard on Corner Gas.

| New Programs: Teletoon Says 'Go' to Blueprint's 'Go-Girl' |

Canadian Indie Studio BLUEPRINT ENTERTAINMENT has been greenlit by Canadian Animation Network TELETOON for 26 half-hour episodes of the live-action tween comedy GO-GIRL. GO-GIRL is the first TELETOON Original Production to feature live-action animation hybrid with an eclectic mix of animation and visual collage techniques. The series begins production in late fall, filming in Toronto and the greater Ontario region, for a fall 2009 launch on the network. John Morayniss and Frank Saperstein of BLUEPRINT ENTERTAINMENT and creator Wilson Coneybeare (Timeblazers, Monster Warriors) executive produce the series joined by Alyse Rosenberg (Braceface, Ready or Not) who serves as head writer/showrunner. Blueprint’s OASIS INTERNATIONAL will distribute the series worldwide.
