Seventeen-year-old high school student Emily Vinette is the first Top 10 competitor to be eliminated from Canadian Idol, it was revealed live on CTV tonight. Vinette received the least amount of votes following Tuesday's patriotic Canadian Idol performance episode, broadcast live in front of a raucous, sold-out audience at Toronto's John Bassett Theatre. In all, 2.4 million votes were tallied following the show, the most so far this season. Vinette leaves behind nine finalists to compete for the Canadian Idol crown.

Canadians will enjoy the most all-inclusive coverage possible for this weekend's historic Live 8 on CTV event, it was announced today. From 7 a.m. to 12 midnight on Saturday, July 2, Live 8 on CTV will feature a minimum of 17 hours of music with a message from around the globe. The historic day begins at 7 a.m. ET as the first act takes to the stage in Johannesburg, South Africa. For the next four hours, Live 8 on CTV will feature international acts from Johannesburg, Berlin, London, Rome and Paris as CTV pulls down the simultaneous live feeds direct from those locations and switches on the fly to the worlds best performances.

Organizers for Canada's Live 8 concert today announced the addition of international rock-and-roll icon Neil Young to the impressive line-up of over 20 world-renowned acts performing at Park Place (formerly Molson Park) on Saturday, July 2nd from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Fisk University Jubilee Choir will accompany Young's grand finale, which promises to be a spectacular ending to one of the most ambitious live music events to be produced in Canada. The new four-part documentary series Girl Racers is a story of hopes and dreams, heartbreak and victory, and eight women who were born for speed. The high-octane documentary, which premieres Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9 on the Global Television Network, charts the course of North America's top female racecar drivers throughout the 2004 auto-racing season in one of the few sports in which women compete directly with men.

Music fans not lucky enough to score tickets to Live 8 Canada can watch the event – and sister concerts around the world – on CTV, it was announced today. At a press conference confirming details for the July 2 event, CTV was named host broadcaster for Live 8 Canada. In what is shaping up to be an historic, all-day, rock and roll television event, CTV plans to broadcast segments from additional Live 8 concerts around the world as well as the entire Live 8 Canada concert. In all, CTV will broadcast over 12 hours of live coverage of what is being billed as one of the world’s greatest concert events ever.

Professor Josh Gould grades himself on his relationship savvy and his ability to practice what he teaches in the second season of Naked Josh. A professor of sexual anthropology, Josh (David Julian Hirsh, Leap Years) teaches sexual behaviour theory to his students - but his extensive education on the subject fails to inform his own sex life. Eight all-new episodes of Naked Josh will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showcase, beginning June 22. An encore presentation of the program will air Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT beginning June 25.

The first stage of the most extensive talent search in Canadian history came to a close last night in Toronto when Canadian Idol judges awarded the last Gold Ticket to the coveted Top 100. Now, with the Audition Tour complete, it's time for the fan-demonium to begin. CTV announced today that Canada's favourite summer series returns with one-hour Audition Tour highlights airing on three consecutive nights, Monday, May 30; Tuesday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 1 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV.
