Astral Media Inc.

Astral’s The Movie Network is pleased to announce its Canadian original programming has garnered a total of 27 nominations for the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, as was announced earlier today by The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Nominations for The Movie Network include: nine nominations for the eight-part limited drama series Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures, a television adaptation of Vincent Lam’s award-winning book; eight nominations for the half-hour comedy Less Than Kind; seven nominations for the dark drama Durham County; two for miniseries The Phantom; and one nomination for the one-hour drama The Line.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our talented production partners for these well deserved nominations,” said Aubie Greenberg, Director, Original Programming, Movie Services. “We strive to deliver a riveting original production slate for our viewers, and it’s an honour to be recognized by the industry for our efforts.”

Durham County will return for a third and final season, beginning Monday, October 25 at 10 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of The Movie Network. Less Than Kind will return to HBO Canada with new episodes in 2011.

Celebrating excellence in Canadian English-language television, the 25th Annual Gemini Awards will be presented on Saturday, November 13 at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. For more information and a complete list of nominees, please visit www.geminiawards.ca.
