In honour of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynska, and the 94 others killed in a plane crash last Saturday, OMNI Television will air a total of three hours of special Polish language programming dedicated to their memory.

Polish speaking viewers are invited to watch a special, two-hour edition of Z Ukosa entitled Poland Mourning that will offer an editorial perspective on the recent tragedy, airing throughout the OMNI Television network as follows:

Saturday April 17th @ 6:00PM ET on OMNI.1 (CFMT-TV)
Saturday April 17th @ 3:00PM MT on OMNI Calgary (CJCO-TV)
Saturday April 17th @ 3:00PM MT on OMNI Calgary (CJCO-TV) and on OMNI Edmonton (CJEO-TV)
Sunday, April 18th @ 10:00AM PT on OMNI BC (CHNM-TV)

OMNI.1 and OMNI Alberta -- OMNI Calgary (CJCO-TV) and OMNI Edmonton (CJEO-TV) – will also carry 60 commercial-free minutes of highlights from the Polish state funeral planned for President Lech Kaczynski and the first lady, this Sunday, April 18th.

Ceremony highlights will air: on OMNI.1 at 7:00 p.m. ET (encore presentation, Friday, April 23rd at 1:00 p.m. ET) and on OMNI AB at 7:00 p.m. MT.

“It is a very somber time for all who are of Polish heritage both in Canada and globally,” says Madeline Ziniak, National Vice President of OMNI Television. “OMNI and all ethnocultural communities mourn this tremendous loss for Poland and its people. We are privileged to address the collective sadness of the community with programming needed during this time.”

On 10 April 2010, President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria Kaczyńska perished when a Polish Air Force Tupolev Tu-154M crashed while attempting to land at Smolensk-North airport in Russia. There were no survivors on the plane, which was carrying senior Polish government officials on a trip to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
