Radio-Canada Submits Proposal for New Sports Channel RADIO-CANADA SPORTS

Radio-Canada announced yesterday is has submitted an application for a new licence to operate a new national french specialty channel to be called RADIO-CANADA SPORTS.

Radio-Canada mentions that this new channel would focus mainly on Canadian content devoting most of its airtime to amateur sports.

SRC competitor Quebecor has also announced its intention to start a new sports channel (TVA Sports) but has not yet started the service.

For now, RDS and RIS remain the only canadian channels devoted to sports in french.

Finally, CBC has recently announced its intention to begin a new sports channel (CBC Sports Plus). No start date for this new service has been given.

In the past year, licences for three new sports channel were requested which is sure to finally make some room to amateur sports.RDS, TSN and SportsNet will surely loose some coverage to those new competitor making room for coverage of other sports.
